The Invacare Orion is a Large Pavement/road Scooter, it has a top speed of 8mph so it does need to be covered by a valid road tax disc.
With a range of up to 20 miles the Orion is suitable for everyday use and getting you out of town as well. The ride quality of the Orion is very good indeed, as the scooter has all round suspension that absorbs bumps from the road with ease, it also has large pneumatic(inflatable) tyres that give good feel and stability even on bumpier surfaces. The Orion has a very well made Captains seat which should keep you comfortable even on longer rides, the seat can also be moved backwards and forwards to either provide extra leg room or bring you closer to the tiller/Hand controls if need be, the seat also rotates through 360 degree's to aide getting onto or off of the scooter.
The Tiller/Hand control is very easy to use has a very sturdy and well made delta shape and the buttons are well laid out for simple operation, a great feature on the Scooter is the "Turning Speed Limiter" so if you sharply turn the steering while going quickly the Orion will automatically slow you down to help avoid accidents, we at Mobility Reviews think this is a great feature, but also understand it's not for everyone and the feature can be disabled at the touch of a button.
Like all scooters capable of speeds over 4mph, there is a button that will select either 4mph mode or 8mph mode, this is helpful when using the scooter on public pavements where speeds over 4mph are Illegal. The Orion also has a full lighting system, that includes Headlights rear brake lights Indicators and Hazard Lights all these controls are nicely set on the Tiller for easy operation.
The Invacare Orion can be taken apart to be transported if you need to take it on holiday however as this is a Large Scooter we don't recommend doing this regularly as the parts are quite heavy and with the size of the Scooter it will take on considerable space in you're vehicle.
Overall we would like to say that the Invacare Orion is a very good very well made Scooter for the price, also Invacare are a very well known name in the field of Mobility Products and offer a full 2 Year Manufacturers Warranty.
Charging
When charging your scooter you should be aiming to charge it for around 8-10 hours (overnight is a good time) always remember to charge the scooter after every time you use it. If you will not be using you're scooter for a period of time in winter for example we strongly recommend you charge you're scooter at least once a week to keep the battery's topped up, this can help prolong the life of you're batteries.
Servicing
Currently servicing is not required in the UK on Mobility Scooters however we always recommend that you try to get your scooter serviced once a year the same as you would do with a car, this can help make sure everything is running smoothly and possibly alert you if anything may need repair or replacement this can be done at most local Mobility Shops, should cost around £50.00-£75.00 and take just a few hours to complete.
Insurance
Insurance on mobility scooters is not required by law, however we feel it is worthwhile to insure any scooter for peace of mind. Not only can you cover yourself if you're scooter is lost stolen or damaged, but many policies come with Public Liability also should you be involved in an incident with a third party.
Many insurance companies also offer a Recovery/Breakdown service as well as Extended Warranties.
Road Tax
In Great Britain (and some other countries, always check you're local law's governing the use of Mobility Scooters) it is the law to apply and display the road tax disc on 6MPH and 8MPH scooters, when you buy a 6-8MPH scooter you will get a tax form which is a V55/4 and is your responsibility to fill out and send to the DVLA although most dealers will offer to do this for you. With second hand scooters you need to get a tax form from the DVLA which is a V55/5 which can be downloaded and printed or requested by telephone, this must be filled in and sent back with the last owners log book to get a new tax disc.
The tax and tax disc are both free in Great Britain(again you may need to check you're local law's), but you are required to apply for it and display it as the 6MPH and 8MPH scooters are considered road scooters.
Pricing Guide
We have researched this scooter both in many UK showrooms and online and have found this scooter will retail in store for between £900 and £1800.
The scooter can be found online for anywhere between £900 and £1600.
