Throttle Potentiometer (POT)
One of the most common faults to occur on mobility scooters is a problem with the Throttle potentiometer usually called a POT (this is found on the tiller/handlebar under the shrouding) which enables you to go forwards and backwards, it is a simple job to complete and the price does vary in labour costs as some are fitted with a plug connector to change them and some require soldering the old one off and soldering the new one on again. The rough cost of a POT varies from scooter to scooter but expect to pay around £50.00 - £120.00 for your Throttle POT and in the region of £20.00 - £40.00 for the labour of getting the work completed.
Speed Potentiometer
Another common fault to occur on mobility scooters is the Speed potentiometer usually called a SPEED POT (found in the same place as your THROTTLE POT) again a simple job to do and as before prices can vary from scooter to scooter. Most SPEED POT's require soldering so labour charges should be again in the region of £30.00 - £40.00 to complete the work and the SPEED POT itself should cost somewhere around £30.00 - £60.00
Batteries
Another common fault to occur on mobility scooters are the batteries failing, this generally happens when there has been a lack of charge and use of the scooter, battery life is prolonged by frequent cycle use (this is when a battery is fully charged then flattened then charged back up again = 1 cycle). If you will not be using you're scooter for a period of time in winter for example we strongly recommend you charge you're scooter at least once a week to keep the battery's topped up, this can help to keep you're batteries healthier for longer.
Here are some battery sizes and prices of you should be expected to pay, Please note all scooter and power chairs use a 24V system which come from 2 X 12V Batteries.
AGM Batteries
12Ah Battery £30.00-£45.00 each
14Ah Battery £35.00-£50.00 each
18Ah Battery £40.00-£55.00 each
34Ah Battery £70.00-£90.00 each
45Ah Battery £100.00-£130.00 each
50Ah Battery £120.00-£150.00 each
75Ah Battery £200.00-£250.00 each
There is another option for your battery which are GEL batteries which will add around £10.00-£30.00 per battery.
Whilst some dealers don't charge labour for replacing batteries some do and you should expect to be charged around £10.00-£20.00 for battery fitting at most.
Tyre's & Inner tube's
If you are unfortunate enough to get a puncture this is what you would expect to pay for a repair, While you can do a puncture repair like you would on a bicycle you would usually expect your dealer to just change the inner tube for a new one as it is quicker and there are no weak spots on the inner tube.
The price you should expect to pay is around £10.00-£25.00 Per inner tube and around £10.00-£20.00 per inner tube for labour.
